CASE STUDY

SyncFab Platform

ROLE

Product Design Lead (Chief Product Officer)

SyncFab operated in a compliance-heavy procurement environment where aerospace and defense buyers had to source qualified suppliers, interpret RFQs, and manage production records across fragmented workflows. I led product design and product strategy for the platform, turning messy procurement journeys into clearer onboarding, RFQ, supplier-matching, and order-management experiences. That work mattered because trust, usability, and execution speed directly shaped whether teams could move through regulated sourcing tasks without getting stuck in email, spreadsheets, and manual review.

My scope combined UX research, workflow mapping, product design, design systems, prototyping, and PM-style coordination across engineering, sales, and customer-facing teams. I supported the SyncFab 3.0 rebuild and 10+ major feature releases by translating user needs, business goals, and compliance constraints into implementation-ready product direction.

CHALLENGE

The Problem

Aerospace and defense procurement teams were not just sourcing parts. They were trying to verify qualified suppliers, interpret inconsistent RFQs, manage part histories, and move work forward inside compliance-heavy workflows shaped by signals such as ITAR, AS9100, and NIST requirements.

That created friction across the marketplace. Buyers had limited visibility once requests were submitted, suppliers faced slow qualification and onboarding, and internal teams were spending too much time translating documents, reconciling data, and pushing work between disconnected steps.

APPROACH

The Solution

My approach was to treat SyncFab as a workflow design problem, not just a UI refresh. I mapped buyer, supplier, RFQ, part, purchase-order, QA, and shipment journeys, identified where manual review and missing system logic created delays, and translated those findings into clearer information architecture, reusable interface patterns, clickable prototypes, and implementation-ready specs. That combination helped product, engineering, sales, and operations align on what to build and why it mattered.

Research and iteration

I grounded the platform redesign in direct contact with both sides of the marketplace: buyers sourcing aerospace and defense parts, and suppliers managing capacity and quotes. I ran user research and usability testing, then translated findings into personas, IA maps, user flows, and wire flows. Those artifacts doubled as the engineering blueprint and QA acceptance criteria, so research fed straight into what got built. Designs moved through iterative Agile/Scrum cycles with engineering and QA, tracked in JIRA and Confluence, and were refined against developer feedback and customer insights rather than shipped in one pass.

Key design decisions included:

  • Reframed supplier onboarding as an activation workflow, replacing a 2-3 day email-driven process with a self-serve flow that captured certifications and profile data in 10 minutes or less while doubling profile completions.
  • Designed RFQ extraction workflows that turned manual review into a faster, more structured intake path, cutting extraction time from 30-120 minutes to roughly 5 minutes.
  • Mapped supplier-matching, repeat-part, and revision workflows so buyers could reuse qualified data, preserve audit history, and move routine tasks from minutes to seconds or 1-2 minutes.
  • Digitized a 50+ touchpoint procurement journey spanning supplier onboarding, RFQ intake, purchase orders, QA analysis, and shipment, giving teams clearer system coverage across the lifecycle.
  • Built a Material Design-based system with 40+ components, 120+ screens, and reusable patterns across roughly two dozen workflows, reducing fragmentation as the platform expanded.
  • Supported the SyncFab 3.0 rebuild and 10+ major releases through prototypes, UX documentation, and cross-functional alignment that helped engineering ship with more clarity.
SELECTED WORK

Feature work inside the platform

SyncFab self-serve registration workflow

2X PROFILE COMPLETIONS

Replaced a 2-3 day manual email onboarding process with a self-serve flow. Profile completions doubled, and new buyers and suppliers could get into the platform without waiting on a human.

SyncFab RFQ workflow mockups

30-120 MIN TO ~5 MIN

Reworked a core operational workflow that previously took 30 to 120 minutes of manual data extraction per task. The redesigned flow cut that to roughly 5 minutes, removing a major daily bottleneck.

SyncFab design system component library

40+ COMPONENTS / 120+ SCREENS

Built and governed a Figma-based design system of 40+ components powering 120+ screens. Used AI-powered prototyping tools to keep feature iteration fast and visually consistent across a complex enterprise platform.

SyncFab AI-coded prototype

CONCEPT TO TESTABLE PRODUCT

Conceptualized and delivered high-fidelity, AI-coded prototypes from ideation to working software, mapped to defined user stories and acceptance criteria. This compressed the path from concept to testable product.

SyncFab platform interface display

21 COUNTRIES / 5,000 ORGANIZATIONS

Designed marketplace workflows serving buyers and suppliers across 21 countries and roughly 5,000 organizations, including aerospace and defense customers such as SpaceX, Archer, Wisk, Lockheed, and Firefly.
