CASE STUDY

SyncFab Platform

ROLE

Lead Designer & CoFounder

SyncFab is a compliance-first manufacturing platform that connects aerospace, defense, and healthcare companies with a vetted network of over 2,500+ precision manufacturers, automating the entire sourcing process from the moment a buyer submits a request for quote (RFQ) all the way through to delivery. Think of it like a smart matchmaker for industrial supply chains: one that does not just find you a manufacturer, but makes sure they are certified, trackable, and audit-ready before the first bolt is turned.

CHALLENGE

The Problem

Manufacturing parts for a rocket or a medical device is not like ordering something off Amazon. The suppliers have to carry very specific certifications like AS9100, ITAR, AS9102, and buyers were spending weeks just verifying that their suppliers were even qualified to take the job. On top of that, 58% of defense contractors cited the complex acquisition process as a major barrier to entering government contracts at all.

The core problem: the supply chain was technically sophisticated but operationally stuck in the past. Manual audits, endless paperwork, fragmented supplier data, and a procurement process that could drag on for 80+ days. Buyers did not have visibility into what was happening once they sent out an RFQ, and suppliers had no easy way to prove they were the right fit.

APPROACH

The Solution

The design challenge was to take a deeply technical, compliance-heavy process and make it feel as intuitive as booking a ride. The internal reference was literally the Uber of precision parts. That meant stripping the jargon from the UI, surfacing only what a buyer needed to see at the right moment, and building workflows that guided users through compliance requirements without overwhelming them.

Key design decisions included:

  • Two distinct dashboards: the customer-facing DApp (for buyers managing quotes, orders, parts, and invoices) and an internal MMS (for SyncFab's own procurement team managing operations), each tailored to its user's mental model and job to be done.
  • A real-time production tracking interface giving buyers live visibility into order status at every stage: created, production start, shipped, delivered.
  • A compliance verification layer baked into the supplier-matching flow, so users never had to leave the platform to verify certifications.
  • Drag-and-drop document management for uploading specs, 2D/3D models, and compliance docs, with built-in validation and version control to prevent errors from old designs.
  • A notification system with contextual alerts tied to RFQs, purchase orders, and compliance events, so nothing fell through the cracks.
  • A scalable design system using Material UI framework, with a custom theme, brand color palette, and typography standards that kept both apps visually consistent as the product grew.
